WHO'D WRITE ABOUT YOU?

I met Maddy (or Maddie, or Magdalene) when I stopped in a new place for lunch. Her energy so impressed me I did what I rarely do, I told her I was going to write about her.

A couple of days ago, I took a copy of the Francis Gay column into the cafe and presented it to her.

"There you go," I said. "On Sunday, people the length and breadth of Britain were reading about you."

I think she was touched. But she was working, and being professional. She thanked me and, as she turned to go, she said, "I told my mum you were going to write about me. She said, 'Who'd write about you?'"

Me!

Someone who appreciates people who appreciate people. Even if - especially if - they aren't always appreciated themselves.
