I was in my best-paying job ever, but it was making me miserable. Julie, my wife (bless her), asked, "What would you rather do?"

I said, "I always fancied being a writer."

She said, "Okay. I'll cover the bills. You pack in this job and be a writer."

I hadn't mentioned that the only money I'd ever made from writing was when The Sparky paid me 50p for two jokes I'd sent them! I might have been 10.

But, she believed in me! Several books, some regular magazine and newspaper columns, and tutoring three writing groups later... here we are!

I tutor the Wordworkers writing group at the Harbour Arts centre in Irvine. We have been through several incarnations, we've been online and are currently in-person on Wednesday mornings, we've been international, we've won prizes, we've all been beginners...
